yeah if that's what you're talking about it that does make sense

you pay like 120 additional bucks for an i7 and the fucking thing still is a quad core

and the only real difference at the core i7 has the default clockspeed is around 200-300MHz higher, something you could probably achieve with an i5 if you work with it for a little bit

though there is 2MB more cache, it still doesn't make the additional cost worth it

difference between i5 and i7 is higher quality yields (hence more expensive cores) that allow for guaranteed higher clock speeds and guaranteed stability with the hyperthreading firmware

its why intel's hexacores all cost $500-1000 -- their fab process very rarely results in chips with all six cores working so they cost more and because theyre ricer they can mark up the price some more and slap 'extreme' onto the name
