But I'm too drunk to deal with it right now.
Think it's something to do with the registry files or some shit.

I'm going to look into the problem over the weekend.
If push comes to shove I can just ask one of my course teachers during the week about it and get a general idea of what to go for.

Maybe I might want to rip a CD or install a game or such and such.
Don't you need a CD drive to make use of your physical copies of the Touhou games, amsk8r?

it's a one-time thing, the CDs just have an installer that pushes everything into program files and puts a shortcut on your desktop, i don't need to put them in every time i want to play

Obviously but you still need it for the one time.
Anyway, point is that it's useful and I most likely will need it from time to time so what exactly is the harm in trying to fix the problem?

I actually prefer physical copies of things.
I just don't have the funding to indulge in that.

and you can open and close your CD tray right?

if so it's probably an issue with drivers

push the super key/windows button, all programs > accessories > system tools > system information, open "components" and click CD-ROM and then deseprately google from there

It was a problem with the registry, had to go in and fiddle with the relevant files and now it's fixed.
