help my hard drive died

i have a bunch of stuff on that busted hard drive from my laptop and i cant afford to pay for data recovery at ONLY 299.99/HOUR please help me :(

its going "click, click, click" and wont read

in order to troubleshoot it we opened it up for a moment to see if the arm was stuck, but it wasnt. we were careful not to get dust on the disk or touch it in any way

this isn't necessarily true but if you didn't do it in a fairly clean environment the dust is going to reduce its life span if you get it fixed

i think because im an idiot and bang on things when i get mad, the amount of banging i did on my desk and laptop over a period of months knocked the hard drive off its disk thing, and it failed

it was running slow before it fucked itself so i decided to run a dick check on it and it got to 10% then was stuck there for 12+ hours so i did a hard reset, then i think after that i wasnt able to turn it on and it made the clicking sounds

basically im pretty sure i cant do shit to this disk without spending hundreds of dollars to fix it

already replaced it but i have stuff on it id like to get off someday

get a solid state drive they're like bitches cuz you can hit em as much as you want and they'll whine but not do anything ultimately

they cost $500 for 120gb its so not worth it

if it's clicking you have a mechanical issue with your heads, bearings, or spindle

hitting it is not a good idea

i noticed however you can actually get the 'click of death' when you don't have enough power/some other non mechanical issue issue - i was fixing someone's laptop recently and i plugged it into my computer and immediately heard that horrible noise but it worked fine when mounted in his laptop, interestingly

although my laptop hardly uses any space at all with its stuff, so ill consider it for next time

i had it in my laptop and it clicked and i took it out and hooked it to a thingy that hooks up to other computers' usb ports and it did the same thing

ummm actualle it's pretty much a dollar per gig as opposed to 20 cents per gig

ssds are nice but they have like 1 megabyte capacity lol
