oh wait i know why you'd hate it
"Memory foam mattress is known for being temperature sensitive. This is a negative as it takes time for the foam to adjust to your body. This delayed response is a complaint among memory foam mattress owners. If you like a cooler room you'll notice the foam taking more time to adjust and recover. At freezing point the foam is rock hard."

Re: bitching and moaning general
I got this. I run Slackware 14.0 on my Dell Mini 9 with 2GB RAM, 4GB SSD drive. It took some pruning but it fits and runs well.
My other Dell Mini 9 with similar specs, runs Slackware 12.2. Been running that version there for years, no problem. Did have to download/compile drivers for the wifi card but it's well documented on the Broadcom site.
The Dell Mini 9 has a Intel Atom CPU at 1.6GHz.
These are my main working machines. Slackware has never given me a moment's trouble. The base OS just works. It's so good, it's boring. So lately, I've been messing around with OpenBSD for a change.
In the old days, dependencies might have been a problem, but I've had more headache with weird distros that do not include a full development environment. Slackware generally comes with everything you need for development in terms of libraries. Having said that, it's old school. Your basic IDE is vim. If you need something more fancy than that, you can try installing Netbeans or Eclipse.
You get a full set of compilers and languages - java, perl, python, ruby, fortran, ada, everything the gcc compiler supports. From time to time, I've had to install something off CPAN but in general, it's well equipped to handle development.
It also has the usual set of networking utilities like iptables, nmap, rsync, netcat, etc.
One thing I'm concerned about is if it is going to follow RedHat into this systemd nonsense. I much prefer the way it is now. It follows the KISS ideology.
To update packages, you use the 'upgradepkg' utility. I subscribe to the slackware security mailing list and update what they say to update. It's usually a oneliner and they send you the oneliner to run.
Other than that, I use Alien Bob's stuff or download and compile the source myself. I'm not hot on desktop environments. Slackware comes with at least five possible desktop environments, including KDE and XFCE. There's Gnome available somewhere on the net as well. (I run ratpoison which doesn't slow things down) (I can't stand the *buntus. Too much crap running the background. My daughters love LinuxMint and I take their word for it that it is worthwhile)
As for breaking Slackware, I haven't been able to do that and I've been using it since 1995. I've managed to screw Redhat up to the point where I lost the RPM database and had to re-install. I don't even know how I did that. And it was a production machine, too. And I borked the permissions on that installation as well once. My fault, not RedHat's.
And I've had Ubuntu totally go crazy on me to the point where it wouldn't start properly. That was after months of no human intervention. Ubuntu apparently does automatic updates or something. It was a TurnkeyLinux install based on Ubuntu server, if I remember correctly.
But, Slackware, you can safely install and forget about it. It is solid as a desktop and solid as a server as well. You can strip it down and build it up, whatever you want. It'll work.
I've got spindles full of distros that I've tried over the years. I tried them all. They all get wiped and Slackware goes back on.

rap isnt all "nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga"almammy wrote:people swearing themselves by musical genres is probably the most obnoxious thing ever
my fav is when rich white boyz talk about how they identify so deeply with rap artists who go on about drugs and the ghetto and compare the artists to poets or philosophers
its even better than the jerky "i only listen to REAL music like teh beetles and queen"
that said making metaphors doesn't make you the genius mind of a generation, it means you passed 6th grade english Â

People like you really annoy me... policy hounds, blindly following rules. How can you go through life like that, never thinking for yourself? Maybe instead of ingesting everything at face value all the time, you should try some critical thinking. Look behind the curtains and try understanding how things work, but maybe that is too much effort for you. Or just simply doesn't interest you. But then don't get upset at others for having a better understanding of their surroundings.
I don't march in time because I'm simply told to do it, my intellect won't allow it; I need a good reason for a rule to be placed above me, and a better one to follow it.
