TF2 was pretty great before valve made it F2P and before it added lol hats and crafting and fucking everything else, so back when it was a pure FPS

and yeah UT is brutal, same goes for Q3A/openarena/quake live and CS 1.6, it's like a lifestyle for the people who play

UT is so gratingly difficult it manages to hurt the actual 'fun' in the experience, if you havent played for YEARS you're fucked

CS is in the no fun zone because its userbase is full of pricks who take the game seriously to a very deep level

openarena/quake live/QIIIA (all basically the same thing) is just nonstop, challenging and good fun though

this is really skewed because i was trying to think of games i played as a kid like spyro and crash but i already filled up the slots where they deserve so you have the shittiest games on the left and everything else i enjoy playing

competitive pokemon is probably the easiest competitive base to get into since it's basically a really long match between pros at rock-paper-scissors

the only hard part about it is the mindnumbing EV/IV/nature/moveset grinding
