desktop setup thread
1. fences because it has magical powers that force your monitor into giving you endless fellatio; well, not quite, but it gives you infinite desktops and organization tools which beat out good old folders
2. /wg/'s sticky has a shitload of resources for good wallpapers (i'd recommend downloading snowwolf's pack of wallpapers which is literally over 50000)
3. rainmeter if you're into nifty tools and shit
4. windows logon changer so your logon screen isn't complete shit

Re: desktop setup thread
my setup used to be like this:
desktop
>common
>>images (containing all saved png, jpg and gif)
>>>pdn (containing paint.net files)
>>sound (containing all albums)
>>>composition and editing software (containing famitracker, audacity, etc)
>>miscellaneous (containing shit that fit nowhere else)
>>programs (containing setup.exe's, shortcuts and program files because for some shitty reason i used to put them there instead of in the program files folder)
then i moved everything to libraries and removed the recycle bin icon
since then it's been 100% clean

All I have on my desktop is a folder and my recycling bin. In the folder there are sub folders (Images, Games, Other Programs, ETC.).

Re: desktop setup thread
rainmeter is SHIT lol but I do have to give it credit for being easy on resource usage
my desktop setup is any kind of plain vanilla looking wallpaper with an abstract design, frequently used programs in the taskbar (IE, word, excel, onenote, Skype, Explorer, etc.) and a few icons on the desktop I might click
these people who put a bunch of hours into making their desktop pretty likely never even look at it. used fences way the hell back in like 2011 and it was a major resource whore so it got ditched. stardock is a bunch of assholes who don't add uninstallers to their software though. WTF?

my laptop handles stardock fences rather easily, especially with half a gig of memory i'm using on firefox right now

Re: desktop setup thread
all stardock products are shit except for start8, the win8 style start menu looks nice
apart from that their products are usually crap i uninstall within an hour
rainmeter is also pretty crap, i get all the info i need from task manager
why can't people design good themes anymore

I've heard about start8 but the start screen in 8.1 isn't bad enough for me to bother to go through the process
