my quest to make a shitty robot hand actuated by artificial muscles made out of nylon

my imagining of the final product can be seen in this quality ms paint drawing but for now all i have prepared are the muscles

i actually just started on this all of my time before was spent trying to get the muscles to work

i gave up until i found a new way to do it and now these are working reliably and well

the idea here is cheap prosthetics that you can wear

what i've found is there's a very annoying compromise between tight, small coils with very high strength that don't actuate very much and wide, spring-like coils that can extend or contract many times their size at best with the compromise of strength

still working on this but the muscles are VERY fucking slow

i am also considering pneumatic air muscles

make it punch through walls

first prototype is made of metal and is controlled by servos, but the air muscles are definitely an option too

the thing with the muscles of course is that nobody wants to wear an air compressor on their back and monitoring the pressure of shit and all of that is complex stuff

i have one finger and the hand/arm frame done

holy shit i'm stupid

the HAND is fine but i just realized i wanted to put the servomechanisms on top (which wouldn't work because the cord tendons that contract the finger would pull it back instead of forward)
