so it turned out my grandfather wasn't just an engineer at motorola in the 40s-70s but he had collections of the very first germanium transistors and ics that they produced and i found a huge box of them

vacuum tubes arc discharge bulbs transistors capacitors electron tubes and loads of old components i'll take pictures tonight

they're some of the first semiconductors and they're made of germanium and arsenic instead of silicon so i think they're a bit more durable

the vacuum tubes are tough as balls which is inherent to their design
