if using arch is too mainstream and not edgy enough for ya there's always the route that osdev wiki users take which is spending a few years of your time making an operating system from scratch in assembly and c

none of these guys have a super advanced desktop window manager so the majority of them with guis beyond windows 98 at 320x240 have transparent window titles
