He did a lot more than invent the mouse. He pioneered interactive computing as we know it today. In 1968 he and his team did a presentation which is now known as "The mother of all demos".

Its called that because in this presentation they show off: the mouse, copy and pasting, file systems as we know them today, one of the very first versions of the internet (arpanet), hyperlinking, and video conferencing. All of these things in one presentation done 45 YEARS AGO, in a time when computers barely existed as terminals. Computers as we know them today simply wouldn't exist had it not been for Doug Engelbart and his team.
