why the fuck do display managers exist?

i installed LXDM some time ago on wattos and things have been going great, why the hell do people use display managers?

if you're unaware a display manager kicks you into a dolled-up login screen with the time and maybe a shutdown button and typically a menu that lets you pick what you DE/WM you want to use but this seems completely pointless now that i've switched to glorious startx

whats best is most DMs make it impossible to go into a CLI environment unless you wanna switch over to tty2 or something gay like that i mean how fucking inconvenient! (SLiM doesnt do this though so ammy advises you use it if you're so retarded that you need a DM)

i like how linux distros treat their users like idiots, is it really so hard to sudo update-alternatives --config x-session-manager to decide what WM/DE you want to use by default and then startx the night away?

on another note glorious dragora doesn't do this shit, as expected of the greatest distro of all time!

SLiM is cool abeit counterintuitive since you're better off just using startx if you want "minimalism" (and its WM/DE switcher functionality DOESN'T FUCKING WORK freedesktop is a mysterious beast)

when it kicks you in type "exit" in the username field to go into a glorious, masculine CLI environment

most end users that use linux use it because it looks ricer and or they want to show off their glass effects with EFFICIENCY

how else will you remember you're running ubuntu without a reminder that says you're using ubuntu
