Xbox LIVE

So, when I played Bioschock Infinite the other day, my brother having borrowed the game from his friend, it was the first time in months I took my Xbox out of where I was storing the thing.

What I found out is that I need to input the password for the e-mail associated with my account for it to connect to Xbox LIVE.
Then I had to "add an extra layer of security" by supplying a secondary e-mail.
Then I had to confirm that e-mail address with a different e-mail address.

So, can someone fucking tell me why I need three fucking e-mail addresses to play Xbox games online?
