In my religion HPL was regarded as a dreaming prophet ahead of his time, and it wouldn't be very possible to get the word out by saying that "this is 100% real lel" in that time period where they'd lock you in a god damn asylum for the suggestions, would it?

scooby doo fucking makes fun of hp lovecraft in one episode. he literally takes a shit on cthulhu they make fun of cthulhu and lovecraft on live tv infront of kids. this is what happens in the episode

hp hatecraft (obv. parody lovecraft) writes a book on a giant tentacled monster called "Chargargothacon - the beast that had no name" (supposed to be cthulhu). some people believe hatecrafts work is real and worship chargargothacon and write songs about him. hatecraft sees people are acting edgy and think chargar is real so he tells them all it was a fictional book and the monster is fake. one dude gets buttmad that hatecraft said chargar is fake and dresses up as chargar (who looks A LOT like cthulhu) and terrorizes people, and everyone believes chargar is real again. scooby and the others go show everyone some butthurt teenager was posing as chargar and he was fake.
