I had this small argument with my friend while he planned on getting a 3ds.
There's nothing wrong with the 2ds. It has the important functions of the 3ds but doesn't have the 3d, which to be honest, isn't something I'd die for, plus it saves the battery life if you don't use it.

Later on I realized that the XL option would be great. I say that because you only have to fork out a few more for a bigger screen and for something that doesn't fold, it wouldn't hurt for it to be bigger. But they won't do that since 2ds is targeted for kids. But that's just me. Mind you the only handheld I've owned was a GBA and the screen size was fine for me.

Sound is mono if you don't use headphones. If you do it's stereo, which is good. The only thing it doesn't have aside from 3d functionality is power save mode.

You should probably still get a 3ds XL if you don't need to spend money on anything else anytime soon.

I really like the look of the 2ds though.

I still vividly remember the time I was browsing through the handhelds and saw its price being higher than a GBA and had 8 AA battery slots. EIGHT AA BATTERIES. I'm glad I went through with my GBA.

Someone can probably rig it though to have a protective sheet over the screen. You can probably personally do it yourself if someone even just makes a casing for it. The screen doesn't look like it pops out like the buttons.
