People use a STEM degree as evidence that a job applicant is smart and hard working. I know my dad did when hiring real estate agents to work for him. Was selling real estate really something you need engineering skills for? Nope. But it certainly helped in getting the job, as an indication of good character.

It never hurts to look smart, educated and serious with a STEM degree from a good college instead of looking frivolous, childish or lazy with a humanities degree from No-Name U. It really doesn't matter that you think you worked your butt off for that Women's Studies degree; you have to look at how it will be perceived by other people down the road. STEM always looks good. Humanities degrees, not so much.
