i think the second one is missing a piston but as you can see the movement would go up and down and cause linear motion

alternators and dynamos however work on rotary motion to produce electrical current (like a motor except backwards, which will also work this way if you were to spin it without giving it power and how those little hand-powered flashlights essentially work) so you add little rotation hinges to them so when it moves forward and back it pushes the wheel in a full rotation



you can either hook a wheel up to an alternator/dynamo or just integrate it into the alternator/dynamo and you're set your engine now generates electricity
