It was bound to happen. He knew it was going to come, living in a state famed for its prevalence to natural disasters. He had come so close; persevered even through the toughest challenges.
No child deserved this fate. No child who had put up with so much so far deserved to have his life thrown away. But it was a fate that RTCity would face with bravery.
He thought back to the last time he ever stepped foot outside. His eyes squinted at the bright summer lights. He sneezed at the springtime pollen as a brief euphoria filled his body. Light. He had tasted the joy of the outside world for such a brief period before being thrust back into the cold cellar of despair that was his foster home.
What had allowed such a tortured child to make it through such an unfair series of events? He thought back to his friends -- and although he had never met them; never seen most of their faces, they were his friends. They would be in his heart during his final hour.
The water inside the chamber continued to rise as the flooded river roared outside. RTCity had been chained for days after his foster parents evacuated their home. His ankle ached from his past struggles to escape his eternal bond. He inhaled a deep breath, pressing his emaciated rib cage against his skin, and prepared for the end.
