when you crank down graphics settings it changes your theme to it automatically

theres a checkbox for something like "use enhanced buttons and widgets" or something which just translates to "use windows aero theme"

Yeah but I fiddled around with it until I found something I liked which is windows classic rather than instantly switching to it by choosing the theme itself is what I meant.

a lot of people use windows classic for performance gains but thats actually a bad idea because it doesn't get hardware acceleration like windows aero does which makes it generally more resource-intensive

exact same desktop environment and gtk+ theme but completely different backends

desktop is running fedora 19 and netbook is running sabayon (gentoo with a less resource and time consuming install)
