media players

what do you use OTTD

right now i've been using XMMS for music and cdio for cd audio and it's been working very nicely

i rarely ever watch video but on the odd occasions where i do i use mplayer

windows' media player selection is pathetic, it's basically between VLC and MPC for video with no other viable options and both are total shit

MPC needs 100000000000000000000000000000000 plugins and bullshit codecs to function properly and VLC doesn't function properly period

i recommend winamp for music, or the windows port of audacious (though it kinda sucks)

foobar2000 is ok but its for xxarchlinuxxx ricers who need the minimalism so that they can squeeze another megabyte of RAM into their rainmeter setup which is using more memory than plugin-container.exe

windows ricers can never have too many clock applets

i don't even bother with installing anything whatsoever so i run the default windows applications for most uses and that includes audio

the wangblows port of audacious is weird because it uses some packed-in GTK+ libraries instead of the native windows APIs or whatever for drawing window borders and buttons and stuff so it runs a little slow


it's a FUCKLOAD better than something like itunes where you're using 500 MB of RAM to play an MP3 but it's not snappy as it can be

winamp is multiwindow sort of like GIMP those boxes with stores and playlists and all that can be taken out and put back in

why do it in-browser? just feed the url into your program of choice and then minimize it
