x86 phones

so I know mobile things use ARM because ARM is very power efficient but what's the difference of efficiency between ARM and other architectures? a phone that lasts 3 days on a charge on ARM would last how long on AMD64 or even POWER7 or SPARC or so on?

energy efficiency is more complex than a phone's processor and internals - software is very important (android couldnt get that down at all and even version 4 drains your battery life as if a metal strip were shorting the battery contacts) so it's possible that another RISC-based architecture like powerpc would perform just as well

x86 is CISC and so requires more complex cores to support additional single-line instructions

yea I know all that about software but looking from a completely bear metal stance

and why is everything ARM if something like SPARC can work just as well according to you?

arm is probably the cheapest and is easily the most adopted and developed in the mobile application world

solar power was discovered in the 19th century but it didn't catch on until it was necessary to power things in space because it was so expensive and much harder to put to good use since it generates DC current instead of AC

ARM is the most developed for shure but it doesn't matter on new platform, where you have to start with scratch for things like app bases and so on no matter what architecture you're using

WP, Ubuntu Phone OS, sailfish etc. are all ARM

making a factory to produce SPARC/whatever phone chips and optimizing/creating a mobile os at this point is probably too expensive to compete
